Business Profile

About Us In 2000, Brits Jim and Lucy Fisher and their then eight year old daughter, Jenny, moved to the Dordogne, SW France, to set up a cookery school offering cooking lessons to locals and travellers alike.

Despite the locals' bemusement at the idea of an Englishman teaching anyone to cook, not least in France, CookinFrance became a huge success taking students from all over the world - including France!

Sixteen years later, Jim and Lucy returned to the UK, to the place they first met and fell in love, in Exeter, offering cooking lessons in Devon - the county of their roots - and raring to go with the successor to CookinFrance: Exeter Cookery School. Their new cookery school was an instant success, both for giving people the chance to learn how to cook the way they have always dreamed, but also giving corporate and private groups the chance to enjoy a unique culinary experience in a sophisticated waterside setting.

Cookery Courses Find the right cookery course for you with Exeter Cookery School
Run by experienced cookery school owners, Jim and Lucy Fisher, Exeter Cookery School is one of the most exciting foodie ventures to launch in the South West.

Set in one of Exeter's best-loved locations, beside the water on the historic and picturesque Quayside, Exeter Cookery School was borne out of a dream to transform a derelict warehouse into a buzzing, thriving, go-to place for fun and entertaining cookery courses.

Aimed at people from any cooking ability, from cooks who have nothing but a willingness to learn to more advanced cooks looking to perfect their culinary skills, and covering every cookery course from basic baking to butchery to advanced desserts, cookery course participants can choose from a wealth of tantalising options.

Learning to cook may be the prime reason people head to Exeter Cookery School, but fun and laughter are available in equal measure and will be the attraction for them to return time and time again.

With corporate and teambuilding cookery courses guaranteed to be another popular option for the city's professional quarter, Jim and Lucy welcome all foodies on their journey of culinary discovery.

"Friendly and Professional Guidance"

"Thank you all for a wonderful afternoon and evening. We had great fun and really enjoyed ourselves. To have the chance to be creative outside the property world with our newly found cookery skills made it a very successful team building exercise. Jim's friendly and professional guidance was both informative and great fun. We were all surprised how good it all tasted at the end of the day and it was a great way to finish by enjoying the dishes we made with a few glasses of wine around the dinner table. We will certainly be back."

Damian Cook, Stratton Creber on 25 October 2018

"Awesome Day"

"I spent the day here on the French Dessert making course today, what a warm and welcoming place to attend! Jim and Lucy made us feel completely at ease, despite us being absolute amateurs in a very professional environment! I can't wait to book my next course with you in the New Year, thank you both for an awesome day!"

Louise Thompson on 25 October 2018

"Beautifully Equipped"

"The premises are beautifully equipped. I have learnt so many new techniques & recipes and all in a relaxed fun environment. I can't recommend it highly enough & will be booking more courses in the future."

Lynne Manns, Brittany. on 25 October 2018

"Highly Skilled Teacher"

"Jim is a highly skilled teacher, as well as a chef, providing tips and guidance in a humorous way which enabled the 7 students in my group to produce a range of bread products I think we were all proud of. We all happily helped and encouraged each other and felt like friends by the end of the day. The pace is good - lots gets done but it is not pressurised and there are plenty of chances to be individual and creative. A really rewarding all weather experience developing some of those useful little life skills!"

Claire Crafer, London on 25 October 2018
